Rubbing Your Face After Botox
One of the many DON’T that you might have heard after your Botox treatment was “Don’t rub your face after Botox treatment”! But have you ever wondered why?
It is recommended after your Botox Injection, NOT to apply excess pressure to the areas that were injected. You shouldn’t massage, rub or wear tight hats for 24 hours after injection. This is mainly a protective measure. It helps against the spreading of the injected material to undesired areas of the face like the eye muscles. An unfortunate complication causing a temporary eyelids drooping!
Nevertheless, you can continue your routine skin care routine, including touching your face to cleanse and moisturize it. However, it’s best to wait at least six hours (ideally 24 hours) before massaging or rubbing the skin.
But did you know that the average person touches his/her face about 16 times a minute? Studies proved that face-touching helps regulate cognitive overload and stress. This “self-stimulation,” as the Leipzig researchers call it, balances out disturbances in processing information and emotional swings.
Having that said, we believe that face touching and gentle rubbing should not have any significant effect on your Botox treatment results. But what if you touched your face or rubbed the injected sites vigorously after Botox?!
Don’t panic, you have to wait for 2 weeks after injection and consult our practitioner for reassessment and mention that you rubbed the area.
